For the Umatuna Si Yu’os
In the spirit of today being the “World Day of the Poor,” the whole month of November, as in the past, is dedicated to the 2017 Thanksgiving Food and Fund Drive for Catholic Social Service (CSS) and Kamalen Karidat, Inc.
In recent years, more and more families are in great need of assistance. For decades, these two non-profit Catholic organizations in our archdiocese have been in the forefront of serving our brothers and sisters on Guam.
Our brethren struggle every day to make ends meet; to find work and keep it; to find a home to stay in; to put food on the table; and to face many other challenges that require the help of our community and the archdiocese.
As the Year of Mercy ended in November 2016, Pope Francis told people he wanted to set aside one day each year to underline everybody’s responsibility “to care for the true riches, which are the poor.” Marked annually on the 33rd Sunday of ordinary time on the church’s liturgical calendar, the result is today being the Catholic Church’s first World Day of the Poor.
Please support Catholic Social Service and Kamalen Karidat, Inc., by donating non-perishable food items and monetary contributions in your parishes and schools.
Participation in this 2017 Thanksgiving Food and Fund Drive at the parishes and schools is encouraged throughout the month of November.
For more information and to arrange the delivery of goods or monetary donations, please call Catholic Social Service at 635-1406 and Kamalen Karidat, Inc., at 472-4569. Your support and generosity are appreciated.
