For the Umatuna Si Yu’os
Current and former students of Father Duenas Memorial School will honor a longtime educator who continues to contribute to the school as they laud Mr. John D. Forbes on his 85th birthday 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 2 at Papa’s Restaurant.
The event will honor Forbes and will serve as a fundraiser to support the John Forbes Education Fund, which aids students at the all-boys Catholic high school in Tai. The event is supported by the FD Alumni Association, the FD Endowment Foundation and Father Duenas school.
John Dennis Forbes started his teaching career at Father Duenas Memorial School when the O.F.M. Capuchins took over the administration of the school from the Stigmatine Fathers in 1959.
Forbes retired as teacher in May 1994 after 35 years of service. After retirement, he volunteered to serve with a stipend up to a certain period. He was honored by the school with the launching of The John D. Forbes Education Fund commonly known as The Forbes Fund on March 19, 2016 during the birth anniversary of Father Jesus Baza Dueñas and the annual FDMS Songfest.
Born on May 2, 1932, Forbes was married to the former +Rosalind Marie Limtiaco and has three (3) children: former Speaker Mark (FD’71) with son Sean (FD ’11); +Carl (FD ’76); and Pale Eric (FD ’80).
