First-ever workshop for parish support staff set for June 30

By Umatuna Si Yu’os Staff

One parish clerk called it “a long time coming.”

It’s coming indeed, and the goal is to energize and invigorate the dedicated men and women who work at Guam’s Catholic parishes.

The Archdiocese of Agana will present the “Shine Your Light: Parish Support Staff Workshop” from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Friday, June 30, 2017 at the University of Guam’s School of Business and Public Administration and the School of Education in Mangilao.

At the request of Archbishop Michael Byrnes, the “Shine Your Light” workshop is part of the Archdiocese work to improve ourselves across all areas in our Church on Guam.

The theme “Shine Your Light” illuminates the scriptural passage in

Matthew 5:16: Just so, your light must shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify you heavenly Father.

In the workshop, the Archdiocese will seek to inspire and renew parish staff in these three important areas:

  1. Customer Service
  2. Managing Stress
  3. Communication/Unity

The training is open to not only paid parish staff but parish volunteers who contribute as clerks, maintenance workers or groundskeepers for instance.

It is entirely free. The planning committee is working with each pastor and parish to confirm participation numbers and names, however. Parishes are asked to please call Tricia Tenorio at 562-0075 or John Michael Pineda at 562-0063 to coordinate their parish representation by June 20. There is a limit to the number of participants the workshop can accommodate.

Pastors or their designated parish representatives may also send e-mail to tricia.tenorio@archagana.org and jpineda@umatuna.org respectively.

Director of Communication Tony C. Diaz is the overall chair of the workshop. He may be reached at 562-0065 or tony.diaz@archagana.org.
