For the Umatuna Si Yu’os

Over the past two months, we have experienced the passing of two wonderful people: Sister Carmen Cruz, RSM, who died in Belmont, North Carolina, on June 9, and Fr. Ronald Sams, S.J., a friend of Micronesia, who died in Buffalo, New York on June 27.

Sr. Carmen Cruz passed away unexpectedly during a community celebration in Belmont. Fr. “Ron” Sams, retired pastor of St. Michael’s parish in Buffalo, always had close connections with Guam, as well as the whole Micronesia, having worked faithfully over the years to raise funds for the islands. Providentially, our Mercy Sisters were attending the Chapter of the Institute of the Sisters of Mercy of the Americas, an international gathering in Buffalo in June. While there, Sr. Marian Arroyo and Guam delegates happily met up with Fr. Ron after which time he suddenly took ill and passed on to his Divine Creator. His wish to see Micronesians one last time was granted.

The Sisters of Mercy and the Jesuit Community are inviting friends and families of Fr. Ron and Sr. Carmen for a memorial Mass on Wednesday, August 9, 2017, at 6:00 p.m. in St. Therese Chapel at the Cathedral-Basilica in Hagatña. May they rest in peace in God’s -Heavenly Kingdom!
