The attitudes and actions that children witness in their parents and other adults around them have a powerful influence on their lives, Archbishop Michael Byrnes reminds everyone as he promotes the upcoming 2018 Guam Catholic Men’s Conference in a new “The Gospel to Go” video online.
“It’s not so much what we hear our parents say but what we see our parents doing,” Archbishop Byrnes says. “That’s a tremendous power, a tremendous power of imitation.
“Especially in a few weeks when we’ll be gathering with our brothers – most of whom will be fathers – it’s important that we understand that power of imitation by simply the way we live,” the archbishop says in the video. “Not the way that we lecture all the time but in the way we live… that’s the way the faith is most effectively passed on.”
Archbishop Byrnes will be the keynote speaker in the 2018 men’s conference that will be hosted by Father Paul Gofigan and the Dulce Nombre de Maria Cathedral Basilica from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 20.
Registration forms are available at the Cathedral Basilica Pastoral Center and the Chancery Office as well as parish offices and online. Registration is only $10 per person. It is just $15 for a father and son to register. Each additional son is $5.
“The Gospel to Go” is a continuing series of video clips produced by the archdiocese’s Office of Communication on its YouTube channel. Archbishop Byrnes discusses our Catholic faith in a simple, down-to-earth manner in eight videos thus far.
