FDMS gets top awards at high school chemistry competition

Father Dueñas Memorial School students Clayton Brooks and Ron Rocky Coloma won the first place team award in the 2019 University of Guam High School Chemistry Titration Competition hosted by the Chemistry Program of UOG’s College of Natural & Applied Sciences.

The annual outreach event, held since 2009 on UOG’s Charter Day, took place on Tuesday, Mar. 12, 2019 at the UOG campus in Mangilao. The students were asked to determine the percentage of acid in an unknown sample using an analytical technique called titration, according to a UOG news release.

FD students Junya Kanemitsu and Jacob San Nicolas won the second place team award. FD student Clayton Brooks won first place in the individual competition.

According to UOG’s news release, the top three winners in each competition were awarded $775 worth of gift certificates, donated by UOG’s Office of the Senior Vice President. Among sponsors for the event were EMB Electrical Inc., CTSI Logistics, and Modern International Inc.
