FDMS wins island-wide National Forensic League championship

For the Umatuna Si Yu’os

Congratulations to Father Dueñas Memorial School students for winning in the island-wide National Forensic League: eleventh grader Ron Rocky Coloma, first place in the Lincoln-Douglas Debate; eleventh grader Brian Songco, first place in the Original Oratory; and tenth grader Pompeyo Barroga, first place in the humorous interpretation.

After competing island-wide at John F. Kennedy High School, each winning student received the opportunity to compete in Dallas, Texas for the National Speech and Debate Competition from June 16-21. There are six categories to compete in: Lincoln-Douglas Debate, Dramatic Interpretation, Duo Interpretation, Humorous Interpretation, Original Oratory, and Extemporaneous Speaking. Each category requires a certain type of preparation. In this preparation, students develop skills in research, critical thinking, organization, persuasion and communication.

Father Dueñas Memorial School is a continuous partner for the National Forensic League—garnering wins every year.
