SBCS seventh graders go on outreach to Guma’ Mami, Inc.

For the Umatuna Si Yu’os

On May 21, 2019, seventh grade students from Santa Barbara Catholic School visited residents and staff of Guma’ Mami, Inc., at the Sinajaña Community Center as part of their outreach activity for Religion class.

This activity is starting to become a tradition, as they were the same class who did the outreach when they were sixth graders. They found it very meaningful and memorable that they now want to do it yearly.

They spent the day interacting with residents and staff, getting to know new people or reconnecting with others from before. They played musical chairs, bowling, and basketball. The staff of Guma’ Mami were even teasing that they were looking forward to the students’ visit this year so they can have a rematch game because the students beat them last year.

The students also prepared dance numbers and got some of the residents to participate, too. Lunch was a shared meal with staff and residents providing baked treats like cookies, brownies, and buñelos for dessert.
