The Church in Marianas will rejoice as it celebrates the Episcopal ordination of a long-awaited new leader of the Diocese of Chalan Kanoa, Bishop-elect Ryan P. Jimenez today, Aug. 14, 2016 in Saipan.
The Episcopal ordination and installation of Fr. Ryan as bishop of the Diocese of Chalan Kanoa is scheduled to take place 9 a.m. today at Mt. Carmel Cathedral Church, Saipan.
Pope Francis appointed Fr. Ryan bishop for the Diocese of Chalan Kanoa Friday, June 24 on the Solemnity of the Nativity of St. John the Baptist.
Archbishop Savio Hon Tai-Fai, SDB, the Apostolic Administrator of the Archdiocese of Agana will be the principal ordaining bishop. Archbishop Hon is the Secretary of the Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples.
The other two ordaining bishops will be Bishop Emeritus Tomas A. Camacho D.D. and Bishop Julito B. Cortes, D.D. of the Diocese of Dumaguete, Philippines.
Bishop-elect Ryan succeeds Bishop Emeritus Camacho who was appointed the first bishop of the Diocese of Chalan Kanoa by Pope John Paul II in 1984, a position in which he served until his retirement in 2010.
Ryan Jimenez was ordained a priest for the Diocese of Chalan Kanoa on June 8, 2003. Father Ryan was appointed Apostolic Administrator of the diocese by Pope Benedict XVI in Dec. of 2010. Bishop-elect Ryan has held roles in the Church ranging from assistant priest in Kristo Rai Parish and Secretary of the Bishop to Spiritual Director of the Cursillo Movement to Superintendent of Catholic Schools.
