What is the Presbyteral Council?

The Presbyteral Council is an established consultative body which advises the archbishop on matters of importance, particularly in those of pastoral concern (cf. Code of Canon Law 495-501). It is a place for mutual, open reflection and dialogue between the Bishop and the priests of the diocese.

Currently the Presbyteral Council of the Archdiocese of Agaña, with Archbishop Michael Byrnes as president, has three members appointed by the archbishop, five “ex-officio” members who are on the council because of the office entrusted to them, and six elected members. The elected members may serve for four years, and the appointed members serve for five years.

What is the College of Consultors?

From among the members of the Presbyteral Council, the archbishop freely appoints several of them to serve on the College of Consultors for a term of five years.  The purpose of the College of Consultors of the Archdiocese of Agaña is twofold; namely: as advisors to the archbishop particularly in matters regarding the temporal goods of the Church; and as a governing board when the archdiocese becomes impeded or vacant.
