Today marks the 32nd Annual World Youth Day Guam, taking place at the Bishop Baumgartner Memorial Catholic School in Sinajana.
Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament parish is hosting the event with Pastor, Fr. Marvin Bearis, OFM Cap., at the helm.
With an expected 500 teens and dozens of adult chaperones, WYD Guam 2017 features event speakers and musicians with extensive background in youth ministry across the U.S. mainland.
Starting the weekend off with a first-time-on-Guam event called the XLT (eXaLT), the Faithful from around the island gathered at the Agana Heights parish for First Friday Mass on April 7 followed by praise and worship led by Ricky Vasquez, musician and full-time worship leader based out of Nashville, TN.
Featuring main speaker Connor Flanagan, singer/songwriter and recording artist, for a witness talk geared toward young adults, the XLT also had Faithful of all ages in attendance eager to spend the evening with Jesus at Holy -Adoration.
World Youth Day at the diocesan level is held every Palm Sunday of the year. This year’s theme, “The Mighty One has done great things for me, and holy is his name” is taken from the Gospel of Luke. The themes for the upcoming WYDs were chosen by Pope Francis encompassing the Blessed Virgin Mary for the three-year journey that will culminate at the international celebration in Panama in 2019.
