At the synod, the President of CEPAC, the Oceania conference of bishops, shared a short written reflection with the pope and his brother bishops worldwide which the Umatuna plans to publish next week. At center, Bishop Soane Patita Paini Mafi, Bishop of Tonga and President of Conferentia Episcopalis Pacifici (CEPAC) attended the Synod of Bishops held Oct. 5-19 in Rome. CEPAC is the episcopal conference of the Catholic Church in Oceania of which the Archdiocese of Agana is a member. Representing the “young churches” of Oceania, Bishop Mafi was part of vital discussions centering on the family, marriage, divorce, co-habitation and birth control.
