Santo Niño Guam 2000 celebrates 20th Anniversary

Preparations are well under way for the 20th annual fiesta celebration in honor of the Holy Child Jesus, the Señor Santo Niño. The event will be highlighted with a festal Mass to be celebrated at 3 p.m., Sunday, Jan. 13, 2019 at the Dulce Nombre de Maria Cathedral-Basilica in Hagåtña.

In this year’s celebration, eight bishops from the Philippines will visit Guam to grace and participate in this momentous religious event. His Eminence Orlando B. Cardinal Quevedo, O.M.I., D.D. of Cotabato, will head the delegation with Archbishop Jose S. Palma of Cebu, Archbishop John F. Du of Palo Leyte, and Archbishop Martin S. Jumoad of Ozamis City.

Joining them in this visit are Bishop Jose Corazon T. Tala-oc of Aklan, Bishop Patricio A. Buzon of Bacolod City, Bishop Antonieto D. Cabajog of Surigao, and Bishop Dennis C. Villarojo, the Auxiliary Bishop of Cebu.

Immediately after the festal will be the blessing of the images of Santo Niño to be followed by the religious procession around Skinner’s Plaza in the island’s capital.

The traditional cultural variety show that will showcase the religious dances of Sinulog from Cebu and the famous Ati-atihan of Kalibo, Aklan will be held at the compound of Senator Antonio M. Palomo Guam Museum which is just right across the Cathedral-Basilica.
