Patron saints for students and schools

As the month of August passes by, the transition from summer mode to school mode occurs. The school year that lies ahead is sure to bring many challenges in different areas of our lives. One big, inevitable aspect of school is tests that are meant to gauge our progress and performance in our classes.

Along with studying, prayer can definitely help us not only ease our worries with test taking but also act as a sanctification of our studying to be used as an offering to God. Asking help from our saintly friends through prayer is a great thing to do and there are so many saints to ask help from. I’ve listed some of my favorite saints that I call upon before a test or exam. Don’t be shy to call upon them in times of need.

St. Thomas Aquinas

St. Thomas Aquinas

This famous angelic doctor is the patron saint of students, Catholic educational establishments, and all universities. Known for contributing a great deal to the academia realm of our faith, this saint is a powerful patron for students of all ages.

St. Expeditus

St. Expeditus

This cool and lesser known saint is the patron saint against procrastination. Call upon him when it is extremely tempting to put off work until the last minute. Everyone hates having to rush to get things done as time dwindles down and this saint is best known for intercession against just that.

St. Joseph of Cupertino

St. Joseph of Cupertino

This saint is best known for levitating during times of intense prayer and devotion which grants him the patronage of flying, however, there’s more to this saint than his aerial capabilities. St. Joseph of Cupertino is the patron saint for struggling student and test taking. This patronage stems from him powering through his difficult learning disabilities, by the grace of God, and eventually ending up in the priesthood despite all the odds set against him academically.

The Blessed Virgin Mary

The Blessed Virgin Mary

Last and especially not least is the very special Blessed Virgin Mary. After all, we can never forget our mother in times of need. Who better to ask the intercession of than the Mother of Jesus Himself?

Prayer Before Exams

Dear Father, source of all wisdom, help me to use my time and my intelligence wisely as I prepare for exams. Help me to dispose myself to listen to your Holy Spirit so that you, as my loving Father, may place me in a state of prayer and lead me to understand that the supreme wisdom is knowing I am your child. Help me to remain serene so that my work may truly reflect this profound truth Mary, mother of my spiritual life, guide me in the ways of your Son, so that my work may help to transform this world for his glory. Amen.

Best wishes to everyone this upcoming school year. May all we go through our studies be to praise and glorify God.
